Info for Royal Academy of Dance Teachers

Welcome!

Did you read about me in the RAD Member Spotlight thanks to my 2024 win for the Innovation in Dance Teacher Award?

I am excited for you that you wanted to find out more and discovering about the Innovations created over many years.

This website has over 40 pages full of content to share all that I do and what could support you in different aspects of your teaching.  Within those many pages, there are many resources.  Be sure to check out the FREE resources page and join the email list!

You may wish to start by checking out the CPD courses for RAD Teachers linked below.  On that page, there are clickable links to know more abut each of the topics.

The RAD spotlight needed to be shortened to fulfill the requirements.  If you would like to read the longer overview (about 1300 words) please click the link below.

Long Version Write Up

As a fellow RAD teacher, we have much in common that goes beyond simply speaking the same language of ballet.

We understand the needs of preparing students for RAD exams.

We know the RAD syllabus from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2.

Depending on your age and experience you may remember the previous syllabi when there was Classical, Free Movement and Character Sections.

You may even remember the Breton Dance in Grade 2 and the Tarantella from Grade 3!

It is with great respect for the RAD, that I have brought back to the RAD community, the many strategies and methods developed after 25 years studying complementary work outside of the ballet world.

Workshops Specifically for RAD Teachers

Pre-Exam Strategies

So much work goes into preparing each student carefully for their exam.  For most students and parents, there is a great deal of expectation and with that comes stress.

And for the teacher who has done the preparation putting heart and soul into the students, there is pressure to ensure that your students do their best in one specific moment in time.

And yet, all teachers know the disappointment, frustration and even shock wondering what happened in the room that yielded the result.  In 2 words: Stress Dis-Integration.

This work will give you the tools and strategies of what to do and say, along with what NOT to do and say in the last 10-15 minutes before sending the students into the exam room, to have the achieve and maintain the "Performance State".

Silver Swans

Dancers 55+ come to these classes for reasons as unique as they are as humans.  Common reasons would be fitness, health and community.  Many may be returning to dance from their youth, or finally living the dream of doin something for themselves.

Concerns for brain health are widespread and statistics show that this worry is warranted.  Movement is known to be good for brain health and dance in particular.

By including the work of The Radiant Dancer at the beginning of your Silver Swans ballet classes, you will be including specific Brain Integration strategies to prepare the students to learn AND support their quest for long term brain health.   This would be great for marketing your unique programme and show that you really understand the needs and desires of this age group.

Reach Out Directly to Show Interest

For the above workshops, that are very niche to RAD teachers, please reach out directly to show your interest.

Upon sufficient numbers in a geographical area, I will schedule a workshop for the time zone so that as many people as possible can attend live and benefit from the Q and A period.

CPD for RAD Teachers

As a fellow RAD teacher, I know that you will be looking each and every year for some CPD hours.

While you may need a syllabus course if you are teaching a new grade for the first time, you are more likely looking for ways to elevate your teaching results and inject new ideas that serve to rejuvenate your love of teaching.

Exam and Performance Preparation

RAD teachers are generally tasked with up to 3 tasks:

  • Prepare students for Exams or Class Awards
  • Choreograph a dance for the year end show
  • Choreograph for dance competitions

Juggling all of these many tasks within the constant looming deadliness is very stressful.  The every present pressure is there whether it is your first year as an RAD teacher or you have been teaching for decades.

This is why The Radiant Dance Teacher has numerous types of courses which will support teachers in all areas.

  • Teaching skills for good exam results
  • Pre-Performance Preparation
  • Health and Wellness for teachers!
